Sheet Music Story

In July 2015, as one part of Cape Breton University’s public launch of the diversitycapebreton.ca web portal, I was invited to attend the grand opening with a display depicting the historic and musical connection of my father, Pavlo Romanovich Yavorsky, with the Ukrainian community on Cape Breton Island. Exhibit curator Dr. Marcia Ostashewski also set the scene for me to supply a slide show for the web portal, learn several violin pieces from sheet music written in my father’s hand and on file at the university archives, and provide a description of my experience through a 5-page ‘Sheet Music Story’ and 16-page ‘In My Father’s Footsteps:  finding my way along the unmarked path of a long-lost musical journey’.
